casual reminder that this is the best performance that Glee ever did
I got into Glee because of this performance. I tried to watch it in Season 1 but it didn’t catch me, then later on I randomly flipped the channel right when this song started.
My first thought was “WOAH that blonde girl can dance”, followed by “WOAH those girls can sing”. The thing that made me go back and watch the entire show from the start was my third thought- “WOAH, there is something going on between the blonde and the brunette.”
remember when this video was literally the most popular video on the glee youtube channel sO THEY TOOK IT DOWN?! NEVER FORGET.
if i ever say anything nice about Glee, it’s about this performance
“I had a love affair with books, with the characters and their worlds. Books kept me company.”
— Marya Hornbacher
the word Lesbian, for so many of us, feels almost like a slur. not quite, but it feels like such a heavy, scary, dirty word. for so many of us, coming in to our identities, coming out even just to ourselves is more than just being able to be honest about our attraction, but even to just articulate the name for our identity feels terrifying! to be able to just say who/what you are often requires us to reclaim the word lesbian. it is powerful. and scary. it’s why so many of us avoid it, using other softer words that we have less painful memories associated with. it’s also why so many people shy away from calling us A Lesbian.
it is not your fault if you are nervous or not ready to use it for yourself. I encourage you to try it, though, just in private. try saying it out loud, with your voice (or whatever communication method you primarily use). it is OKAY to use it, to say I AM A LESBIAN!!
nothing makes me more livid than society continuing to treat 13 year old girls like grown women but still babying men in their 30’s
“Yes, I am an introvert. No, I’m not shy. No, I’m not stuck up. No, I’m not antisocial. I’m just listening. I’m just observing. I can’t stand small talk… But I’ll talk about life for hours. I’d rather be home with a close friend or two than among a crowd of acquaintances. Don’t scold me in public. Don’t embarrass me in public. Respect that I am reserved. And if I open myself up to you, know that means you’re very special to me.”
